My South Indian Hills, Karnataka, India

Posted on March 1st, by Peter Parkorr in India, Picture Perfect. No Comments
Today I’m sharing a South Indian landscape photo from the state of Karnataka that is etched into the sights, sounds, smells and textures of my memory. I was there in 2010 for 4 and a half months, and volunteering with UK charity Raleigh International for the majority of that time. I spent a month and a half in one beautiful remote spot, 70 kilometres south-west of Mysore, while we worked on an environmental project.…

Mount Etna Erupting At Night, Sicily

Posted on February 22nd, by Peter Parkorr in Italy, Picture Perfect, Sicily. 4 comments
This is one of the first shots I took in Sicily with a tripod. I’d just arrived to a new WWOOF host near the Sicilian town of Acireale, and Mount Etna greeted me with a grumble, and a very rare view of fresh Magma spilling out of its crater at night. It was early February 2012 and quite a chilly evening, but my new hosts eventually managed to get me back inside with home-made Pizza… Mount Etna Erupting at NightI have some more pictures of Mount Etna erupting at night, but here I have cropped the same photo twice so you can see the crater and the magma in some detail, and the smoke from the eruption reaching up into the night sky.…

A couple of rediscovered photos dug out of the archives today, of the fortified town of Korčula and Dubrovnik’s old town, from when I was backpacking Eastern Europe in 2004. With a terribly low quality digital camera (some unknown brand) I still managed to capture something I like in these shots, proving that you don’t need all the bells and whistles to get good holiday snaps.…

Eilean Donan Castle At Dusk, Loch Duich

Posted on February 8th, by Peter Parkorr in Britain, Picture Perfect, Scotland. No Comments
Sitting at the edge of Loch Duich, Eilean Donan Castle in the Highlands of Scotland was destroyed in 1715. Just over 200 years later it was rebuilt to within 98% accuracy of the original castle, supposedly thanks to drawings made by the clerk of works, Farquhar Macrae, who had visions of the restored castle in a dream. Eilean Donan CastleCopyright Peter Parkorr 2013 This photo was taken during the #blogmanay social media campaign, which was sponsored by Edinburgh’s Hogmanay with the support of VisitScotland, ETAG, Edinburgh Festivals, Haggis Adventures  and Skyscanner.…
