Why I Went To Catania For 3 Days And Stayed For 2 Months

Posted on April 16th, by Peter Parkorr in Italy, Picture Perfect, Sicily. 6 comments
Catania is one of the two big cities in Sicily. Palermo is the other one, nearly on the opposite side of the island. A lot of people prefer Palermo to Catania, but not me. I’ve put a few photos of Catania together to try to explain why. There’s more to Catania than meets the eye. Catania has a pretty city centre, popular with shoppers, there are some impressive churches and facades, although you don’t have to stray far to find more run down areas.…

Photos of Carnevale Celebrations in Acireale, Sicily

Acireale is a small but pretty town in Sicily, not too far up the coast from Catania, the nearest big city. This town is known mainly for two things; the legend of the Cyclops, and for having one of the best Carnevale celebrations. I’m sharing some Acireale Carnevale photos today and talking a little about life in Sicily too. A series of rough seas pictures from Malta, that I’ve decided to call The Other Great Siege of Malta. The actual Great Siege of Malta was a long and bloody affair between Christians from the West and the Ottoman Empire to the East. You can read a great account of the build up and outcome of the events in 1565 on this post by ilovemalta.com.mt (a website dedicated to Maltese gastronomy, which there is plenty of.) However, when I visited Malta and Gozo, I witnessed another attack on the islands that still goes on today.…

WWOOFing in Sicily at Borgo Tudia

Posted on April 15th, by Peter Parkorr in Italy, Picture Perfect, Sicily. No Comments
Once upon a time I went WWOOFing in Sicily. This birds eye view is of a little cluster of rustic Sicilian cottages and farm buildings, in the dead centre of Sicily near Resuttano. It is the privately owned Borgo Tudia, a 200 hectare estate that is home to one of my WWOOF hosts in Sicily at the start of last year.…
