Locus festival 2014 in Puglia – ‘Apulia Kind Of Blue’ Video
Locus festival 2014 in Puglia – a land of stunning beaches. It’s the part of Italy’s boot which makes up the heel, so it has beaches on both sides. In the East is the Adriatic Sea and in the Western arch of the boot is the Ionian Sea. I was lucky enough to spend 10 days there this summer with MustLoveFestivals, driving along coastal roads, from Bari in the centre down to Otranto in the South, stopping at lots of towns and swimming spots on the way.
Locus festival 2014 and the Adriatic coast of Puglia
I’ll share more about my Italian summer road trip soon, but first I want to show you some of the beauty of this region in film. I made a video about Locus jazz festival which takes place in Locorotondo each year. Great international and Italian jazz artists come to this little town to take part in evening concerts over a couple of weeks each summer. And it’s entirely free to watch, so there is usually a ‘full house’ (or full town square).
This year Locus festival featured Gregory Porter and his band from the US, and Laura Mvula with her band from the UK, as well as many others. I took a couple of sentiments from them, and some words from Ashley Kahn, and mixed them together with video from the glorious sunny days I had on the road in Puglia.
Ashley was talking at Locus about his book on the subject of the Miles Davis album ‘A Kind Of Blue’ (which he strongly recommends you go out and listen to). I hope you enjoy the end product, a fusion of scenes from the jazz festival and film from the road trip, which I’ve called ‘Apulia Kind Of Blue’.
