Kilts, The Keilidh, and Edinburgh Burns – Hogmanay By Night

Posted on January 18th, by Peter Parkorr in Picture Perfect, Scotland. 3 comments
3… 2… 1…. ‘Happy Hogmanay, Happy Hogmanay!’ – The cheers went up, the smiles grew wide, and the thousands of people gathered in Edinburgh all tried to hug each other at once. We sang Auld Lang Syne with enthusiasm, after being dazzled by hundreds of stunning fireworks that blasted the black sky into colour. Edinburgh Castle sat smoking above us, and on the main stage Simple Minds started up their instruments again.…

Posted on January 14th, by Peter Parkorr in Everywhere, Monday Meetings. 5 comments
For the first of our Monday Meetings in the New Year, allow me to introduce you to a genuine diamond that goes by the name of Frankie Bird, aka The Bush Birdie, aka Frankie Thompson. The week’s accommodation was kindly provided for me by London’s newest hostel outfit, Safestay in Elephant & Castle. After a busy few days pitching tourist boards and many a PR person, it was good to let off steam at the Hostelbookers Travel Blogger Awards, taking some cheeky snaps while socialising with a few industry people and heaps of bloggers.…

Monday Meetings – Paul ‘Happy Hermit’ Jost

Posted on December 10th, by Peter Parkorr in Monday Meetings, Travel Tales. No Comments
Today the Monday Meetings introduce us to Paul, a man on various missions, who took the time to explain the How’s and Why’s of his travel philosophy. Since he wrote these musings, he has hitch-hiked from Catania, Sicily, all the way to Athens, where he’d found a boat to join as a crew member, and then spent a few months island hopping, learning to sail, and free-diving in deep lagoons.…
